The most pristine and at the same time one of the most famous areas of Epirus
The capital of the regional unit of Thesprotia is the city of Igoumenitsa, the most important harbor of communication between Greece and Western Europe, but also the end of the Egnatia Highway. The town was rebuilt at the beginning of the last century, while archaeological research revealed that prehistoric people inhabited the area and that it has always been a place of settlement of Greek tribes, but also foreign invaders. At the Archaeological Museum of Igoumenitsa, visitors can get acquainted with the archaeological past of Thesprotia, from the Prehistoric era to the Byzantine times, with exhibitions of findings and the use of new technologies. At a distance of 5km from Igoumenitsa is Drepano, a beautiful beach 4km, awarded with a Blue Flag for its quality features. It is an ideal choice for those who want a quick getaway in a quiet environment. At the same time, it is especially preferred by families because of the clear shallow waters it has and its organization with restaurants and water sports.
