Preveza is the capital of the Preveza Regional Unit, where you will find the local administrative, commercial, cultural, and tourist services. The present-day town was built on the ancient Vereniki townsite, founded by Pyrrhus, the Greek King of Epirus, in 290 BC and constructed during the late 11th c. after ancient Nikopolis town was deserted. It was conquered many times across the centuries until it became part of Greece in 1912.
